Employment Flash No. 6/2020 – Latest news in the labor law field

The Government Emergency Ordinance no. 41/02.04.2020 on the amendment and completion of Law no. 19/2020 on granting some days off to parents in order to supervise their children in case of temporary closing of educational establishments was published within the Official Gazette no. 282, dated 3 April, 2020.

This normative act provides that the days off may be granted also during the school holidays to one of the parents, in order to supervise their children, in case of temporary closing of educational establishments (and of ante-preschool educational establishments), following the state of emergency decreed according to the law.


The Law no. 37/02.04.2020 regarding, among others, the completion the provisions of art. 139 of the Labor Code was published within the Official Gazette no. 280, dated 3 April, 2020.

The law specifies that for employees of legally-recognised Christian religious cults, the days off corresponding to the religions holidays of Good Friday (last Friday before Easter), the first and the second day of Easter and the first and the second day of Pentecost are granted in accordance with the date when these religious holidays are celebrated by that cult.

In case employees benefited from the days off corresponding to the religious holidays mentioned above, on the days established for the legally-recognized Christian religious cult (to which they belong), as well as for another Christian religious cult, they will recover the additional days off according to a program established by the employer.


The Law no. 24/20.03.2020 on the amendment of art. 14 of the Law no. 165/2018 on granting value tickets was published within the Official Gazette no. 229, dated 20 March, 2020.

The maximum nominal value provided by law for a meal ticket increases from RON 15.18 to RON 20.


Note:  The Government Emergency Ordinance entered into force on the day when it was published within the Official Gazette, while the Law regarding legal holidays entered into force in 3 days from the moment of publishing within the Official Gazette. The law regarding meal tickets entered into force on the 1st of April, 2020.
