Representative Cases and Transactions

  • Assisted a regional industry player in evaluating the environmental restrictions and requirements applicable to the implementation of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Romania, both onshore and offshore, including identifying inconsistencies between the CCS-specific legal framework and the applicable environmental law, as well as areas requiring further legislative clarification or amendment.
  • Assisted a multinational company active in the cement industry with various environmental regulatory and compliance matters, including the revision of waste management contracts, issues concerning waste shipments, and the assessment of the environmental legal framework applicable to landfill mining projects.
  • Assisted an oil & gas company with sophisticated environmental law and climate change matters in multiple disputes regarding complex environmental permitting procedures required for the development of the largest natural gas project in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
  • Assisted a hydropower plant operator with various environmental aspects related to the operation of the plant, including in connection with an environment-related dispute and several inspections conducted by the environmental authorities, following the plant’s initial inclusion in an infringement procedure initiated against Romania.
  • Assisted large retailers active in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector on various environment-related projects, including participation in the Romanian deposit-return system, Environmental Fund related disputes, negotiation and establishment of contractual relations with organizations for the transfer of responsibility, initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of certain plastic products, and the installation of electric charging stations.
